Where We Stayed: Berlin Airport

Moxy Berlin Airport

The first thing to discuss here is location. Like I said in my earlier posts, the Berlin airport is pretty removed from the heart of the city. This is the case for a lot of big airports. What’s different about BER and its surroundings is that there isn’t much around the airport. There are a couple of hotels, an IKEA off in the distance, and a village a mile or two away that I saw on a map. All of this is to say that I can’t recommend the Moxy as your home base during a trip to Berlin.

However, if you are looking for a place to stay the night before flying out of BER, this location becomes a positive, and I do recommend it. They have an airport shuttle that you can reserve. There is an on-site restaurant with 24/7 grab-and-go, so you have a place to eat if you need it. We appreciated the free welcome drink in the lobby/bar.

Our family room had a living room with a pull-out sofa bed and a bedroom with a king-size bed. The bath had a zero-entry shower stall. Everything was spacious: this could be in part because we were in a wheelchair-accessible room, but it still would have been reasonably sized without the wide entryways. There was a nightlight going around the bottom of the long bed, which was unusual, but it kept us from fumbling around in the dark.

There was no fridge in the room, but this didn’t matter to us for the night before our departure. There was AC, and it worked beautifully. Breakfast was available for an additional charge at the restaurant, but we ate at the airport instead.
